Creativity
There is little doubt that David Lynch is a creative genius. He has garnered a huge following over the years and even had his surrealistic directorial style dubbed "Lynchian". This style is characterized by its dream imagery and meticulous sound design. In 2006, Lynch wrote a book titled "Catching the Big Fish" where he explains his creative process in great detail. Here is a quote from his book:

In this quote Lynch is referring to the ability to transcend, to go beyond thoughts and experience the source of thought which is also the source of all creativity. By going deeper within yourself Lynch believes you will find better ideas and therefore be able to "catch the big fish".
In this video below, Lynch describes more about his creative process in reference to filmmaking.
Here is another quote from 'Catching the Big Fish':
If you’re an artist you’ve got to know about anger without being restricted by it. In order to create, you’ve got to have energy; you’ve got to have clarity. You’ve got to be able to catch ideas. You’ve got to be strong enough to fight unbelievable pressure and stress in this world. Bliss is like a flak jacket - it’s a protecting thing. If you have enough bliss, it’s invincibility.
